The Standard & Poor's Index Versus Active funds scorecard (SPIVA Scorecard) is a report produced quarterly which tracks the overall performance of actively managed funds versus their index benchmarks.
In any given quarter, active funds can win or lose, but over longer periods of measurement it is routinely noted that broad mandates have a very tough time keeping up to their benchmarks. Roughly only 10% of funds in these categories have kept up to their benchmark indices.
